You Grew Wings, Not Just Wrinkles
Have you read The Very Hungry Caterpillar? 🐛
It's one of my favourites. I've bought it and read it to my own children, my grandchildren, nieces, nephews, the lot. It just resonates with me.
But how many of us actually see ourselves as that little caterpillar? And no, I don't mean eating your way through an entire block of cheese and a chocolate cake on a Friday night (we've all been there). I mean the bit where it stops being a caterpillar and turns into something else entirely. It doesn't mourn its legs when it grows wings. It just becomes what it was always going to become.
You've changed the same way. Motherhood, your relationship, years of putting everyone else first, it's all shaped you. But you're probably too busy running the house, the job, the school run, to actually notice the woman you've grown into. That's what an empowerment experience is really about. It's not just a session, it's not just for the day. It's a shift in the way you see yourself, one that stays with you long after you've left the studio. This is a journey, and I'll be with you every step of the way.
Stop ✋ Saying Sorry, This Isn't About Looking 22 Again!
If you're like most women who come see me, you'll be apologising for your body before you've even taken your coat off. "Sorry about the tummy," "sorry about the stretch marks," sorry, sorry, sorry. Let's just stop that right now, nobody's here to relive their twenties.
Frankly, my twenties involved some questionable haircuts and even more questionable decisions, and I'm not signing up for a re run.
Your body isn't a worse version of your 20 something self, it's a full renovation, and the new build has character the old one never had. That "flaw" you keep apologising for?
Nobody else has clocked it, they're too busy worrying about their own.
Your session is your chance to see you, right now, wine glass down, mum guilt switched off, tummy included, spotted by someone whose entire job is finding what's gorgeous about you before you've even had your coffee.
Wine,🍷 Wings,🪽 and Meeting Yourself Again
Here's a fun fact nobody tells you at the school gates: no one else can do this bit for you. Your other half can run you a bath and tell you that you're gorgeous every day for a year, your best mate can send you a thousand "you're a QUEEN" texts, and none of it will land quite the same as you actually looking in the mirror and clocking the real you, all on your own. It's a bit like trying to get someone else to laugh at your own joke for you. Doesn't work like that.
Between the school run, work, and being everyone's unofficial personal assistant, it's easy to forget who you are outside of Mum, partner, friend, and chief finder of missing PE kits.
Your session is a proper pause from all that, a whole half a day of being thoroughly pampered, with a little glass of something and a light lunch thrown in. Nobody needs anything from you (not even a snack, we've got that covered too).
You just get to be looked at, cared for, and celebrated exactly as you are. Most women tell me it feels less like a photoshoot and more like bumping into an old friend they haven't seen in years, one who still owes them a glass of wine and a good catch up.
And here's the honest truth: you owe yourself this. Not in a smug, candle lit, "live laugh love" sort of way, but properly. You've spent years pouring yourself into everyone else's cup. Letting your own feelings be seen, actually seen, isn't selfish. It's the least you can do for the woman who's been running the show behind the scenes this whole time.
Your Confidence Rubs Off on Everyone Around You
Here's the bit people don't expect: this isn't just for you. When you feel capable and beautiful, you carry yourself differently, and your family notices, even if nobody says a word. Your kids pick up on how you treat yourself way more than anything you tell them about self worth.
Your partner will probably start appreciating you again in ways that had quietly slipped. You stop being just "the one who sorts everything" and become a fabulous woman again, one worth noticing.
You're the Butterfly,🦋 Not the Cocoon
Yes, your body's changed. But that's not a bad thing. Remember our little caterpillar? 🐛 It didn't stay a caterpillar forever, and it certainly didn't spend its time in that cocoon wishing it could go back to being small and green.
It went in one thing and came out something completely different: a butterfly, wings and all, exactly as it was always meant to be.
That's you. You've built a family, held down a career, kept everything running, and quietly spun your own cocoon out of every late night, school run, and sacrifice nobody saw. You didn't shrink in there.
You transformed. So let's stop hiding the butterfly and get those wings on camera.
